Jobs and manufacturing overview
A job is where Epicor turns demand into product. It pulls a method of manufacture from engineering, draws material from stock or purchasing, collects labor from the shop floor, and hands finished parts to inventory or shipping. Along the way it accumulates cost, which finance later moves out of WIP.
The flow at a glance
Section titled “The flow at a glance”- Demand arrives: a sales order release, a stock shortfall, another job’s material or a forecast.
- Planning turns it into a job, either by hand in Job Entry, through the Planning Workbench, or as an MRP suggestion that a planner firms.
- Engineering confirms the method (materials and operations) and marks the job Engineered.
- Scheduling gives it start and due dates against resource capacity. See Scheduling.
- Release sends it to the floor. Material is issued or backflushed, and employees report labor.
- Output goes to stock, to another job or to a customer.
- Completion and closing stop further activity, and Capture COS/WIP Activity moves the costs to the GL.
